Considerations when Looking for a Pallet Storage Provider?

Whilst it is tempting, for any business, to try and save costs where it can, product storage is a case where cheapest most definitely isn’t always best!

You need to consider that the goods you hold in stock are your future revenue; any damage to your stock, as a result of poor-quality storage, could not only result in lost profitability, but also, damage to your reputation for reliability amongst your customers.

It’s really very simple, without product, you don’t have a business. It’s therefore of the upmost importance to protect the integrity of both your product, your business and your reputation by only using storage of the highest possible quality. Using poor quality storage facilities because they’re cheap is a false economy.

The things that you need to consider are:

  • Accessibility – Your storage facility needs to always be accessible during working hours. Furthermore, the facility needs to be strategically located with easy access to major A and M roads.

A West Midlands location is also ideal since a central location is not only ideal for dealing with a UK wide customer network, but also, the storage rates will be far more competitive than those associated with facilities down south.

  • Security – Storage facilities need to be alarmed, 24-7; preferably with CC -TV

  • Racked pallet storage – Ensure goods are kept of the floor.

  • The option of additional services – Whilst you might only need storage initially, it’s often the case (certainly as you grow and get busier) that you might need additional support in the form of 3PL and fulfilment – and if your storage provider can offer all this from under one roof then such a provider is always preferable. Remember, it’s important to consider your long-term requirements rather than just focusing on the immediate needs.

  • BRC accreditation. BRC or British Retail Consortium really is a strong indicator that your storage provider is that right one for your business as a stringent, national standard for perfect – ambient storage.

At TTS (Telford Transport Solutions), all our, central England warehouse facilities embrace all of the above qualities; in fact, for several years running, we have achieved the highest possible BRC accreditation of two ‘A’ stars. With such accreditation, temperature, security, cleanliness as well as how the goods are handled are all things that the report, which takes several days to compile is intensive to say the least. However, it just goes to demonstrate how important TTS takes your business.
